3 Secret Tips For Optimising Your LinkedIn Profile [2019]

It used to be your CV was the only place an employer could see your work experience, skills and referees but now with Linkedin all of this is easily available making it a priority to ensure it is looking fab. Now there are tons of different parts to your LinkedIn profile but the most important ones are your Linkedin banner, Linkedin headshot and Linkedin headline statement as these are the first three things anyone visiting your profile is going to see. Here are essential tips for all three to ensure you are remembered the next time someone visits your profile.

Linkedin Banner

This is at the tippy top of your profile right behind your beautiful headshot. This bad boy should complement your profile photo and is the perfect place to incorporate your personal branding and grab the attention of your ideal clients. When creating/selecting a photo for this fair warning, be careful with the image to not put anything important in the bottom left or middle parts as it will be covered by your headshot. The optimum size for this photo is a long 1400 x 425 pixels which can be created in many apps e.g. Canva where you can specify photo dimensions. Below is my profile and as you can see all the important information is on the right and incorporates my businesses tagline which helps anyone visiting to self-identify, quickly capturing interest.

Linkedin Headshot

The head shot is where you show off your million dollar smile and handsome mug as when someone sees your headshot a personal connection is born so making sure you look personable is essential. A great way to make sure you’re looking handsome/gorgeous is to get a professional photographer or alternatively you can get a friend who has a decent camera to take your photo. Putting that extra effort into your photo rather than pulling out your 10 year old camera and getting the closest person to snap a single photo really makes a huge difference in the long run. The photo you put into your Linkedin headshot is going to be seen by thousands of people and your future boss so looking professional is essential to landing that professional job plus who doesn’t want to look fantastic in their own photo.

Linkedin Headline Statement

The headline statement is the most vital out of the three aspects of a Linkedin profile as it is where someone looking at your profile or sees it pop up somewhere finds out what you’re all about. Now the secret to this one is following this cheeky trick which can be applied to any industry with a slight change in wording: I help ______ achieve ______ through _______. In this case, as can be seen below I have changed the words slightly to fit my industry replacing help with helping, achieve with scale and through with using. Headline Statements are most commonly not used to their full potential as people describe themselves instead of demonstrating who you can help, allowing someone visiting your profile to instantly see whether you’re the person for them.
